Designing Web3 wallet at Leap

About the company

Leap wallet is a advanced Web3 super wallet designed for Cosmos blockchains - offering an experience to explore multiple Cosmos chains, transferring assets, earning staking rewards, participating in governance, and engaging in various activities such as DeFi, NFTs, and DAOs, all within a single, easy-to-use wallet extension and a mobile application.

Role and responsibility

Leading the design efforts for Leap mobile app experience - establishing value proposition for upcoming product features and taking ownership in defining Design principles, creating user-journey flows, prototyping high-fidelity mockups, and building a component library. In parallel, working with Sanjeev (CEO) and Barun (Product) to set up the company’s design function.

Scope of this project

In early 2022, the Leap team had a successful MVP chrome extension in the market. With positive adoption, the team was looking to build on it by creating a mobile application experience, for power users in the Leap ecosystem.

After initial conversations, a decision was made to work on the iOS application for Leap wallet. My focus areas included:

Market analysis

Supporting discovery for the Product manager to understand the needs, preferences, and pain points of the target audience, particularly those interested in cryptocurrency and decentralized finance (DeFi). In parallel, analyze existing Web3 wallets and iOS apps to identify strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities for improvement.

User flows and Information Architecture

Developing user flows that outline the steps users will take to perform key actions within the app, such as creating a wallet, managing assets, and executing transactions. Design the information architecture of the app to ensure that navigation is intuitive and users can easily find the features they need.

Information simplified for presentation purposes

Security and Trust

Designing for security features that protect users' private keys and sensitive information from unauthorized access. Communicate security measures transparently to users to build trust and confidence in the app.

Prototyping and Visual Design

Creating a cohesive design language for the app, unique to the Leap brand, but also taking into account iOS design guidelines and best practices. This included the creation of a component library for all the design assets to ensure consistency across the app.

Internal Collaboration

Collaborating closely with developers, product managers, and other stakeholders to ensure that design solutions align with technical requirements and business goals. This included communicating the design decisions effectively through presentations, documentation, and reviews.

Impact and next steps

App release

The Leap wallet iOS app is live in the App store. Initial feedback is positive, with requests for more ecosystem features coming in.

Next steps

The Leap team is continuing the prioritisation exercise by gathering user feedback, monitoring performance metrics and addressing bugs to iterate and improve the value proposition and end user experience.
